County to appoint interim airport director

— Jefferson County Commissioners will consider appointing Alex Rupp as interim director of the Jack Brooks Regional Airport.

Rupp, finance executive/comptroller, has been tagged to fill in for the soon-to-depart Jennifer Hogancamp, who submitted her letter of resignation on July 3 after just less than one year at the helm.

Commissioners will discuss the issue at the 1:30 p.m. meeting on Monday at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1149 Pearl St., Beaumont.

“He has been at the airport for a number of years and worked under the prior airport manager,” Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick said.

Hogancamp’s announcement comes just days after United Airlines announced it would close its regional jet service, Colgan Airlines, which flew five flights daily between Houston-Hobby Airport and Jack Brooks Regional Airport. The company has replaced the flights with United Express, a shuttle bus service.

Precinct 2 County Commissioner Brent Weaver said the county is focused on restoring air service to the airport and Branick said the county will aggressively solicit other commercial air service.

“We have been on conference calls with the Federal Aviation Administration and talking about ways we can approach this,” Branick said. “We will continue to work on this and have been in touch with the airport consultant (Sixtel Consulting Group).”

Commissioners will consider and possibly approve Rupp as interim airport director, effective July 16 with an annual salary of $60,889.
