$1,000 reward offered for escaped Dallas sex offender

PORT ARTHUR — Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Billy Twyane Gibson, a registered sex offender who escaped from custody in Dallas early Saturday.

Gibson is a civilly committed registered sex offender who, after escaping, cut off a 24-hour GPS tracking device he's required to wear at all times.

The Department of Public Safety and the Texas Governor's Criminal Justice Division are offering the reward. Callers to the Crimestoppers Hotline can remain anonymous, as can those who text in Gibson's location.

Gibson escaped from the Wayback Halfway House at 899 North Stemmons Freeway in Dallas. Authorities have issued an arrest warrant against Gibson for failure to comply with civil commitment requirements, which is a third degree felony. Anyone who assisting in his escape could face criminal charges.

Gibson, 33, is 6'3", weighs 250 pounds and has numerous tattoos on his arms, legs and chest. He has brown eyes and black hair. In the past, Gibson has also gone by these aliases: Billy Bruton, Billy Gibson, Tuloo Gibson, Joseph Mohan and Tulu.

Gibson has an extensive criminal history involving aggravated sexual assault, aggravated robbery, unlawfully carrying a weapon and compelling prostitution by force or threat. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about Gibson's whereabouts who wants to collect the reward can call or text-without giving their name-by either calling 1-800-252-TIPS (8477) or sending a text by texting the letters DPS-followed by your tip-to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.
