BEAUMONT —
Donovan Ray Kendrick, 39, of Nederland was sentenced Wednesday to 46 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Thad Heartfield for child pornography violations.
According to information presented in court, in December 2010, law enforcement officers and agents executed a federal search warrant at Kendrick’s residence in Nederland. A personal computer was seized during the search.
A forensic analysis of the computer revealed eight images of child pornography, and at one point had contained at least 34 images. At least one image included a prepubescent minor younger than 12 years of age.
Kendrick pleaded guilty on June 12 to possession of child pornography.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. This case was investigated by the HSI/ICE, the Nederland Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Marshal Service, and the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. This casse was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher T. Tortorice.
