A Port Arthur woman who was shot twice in the head and beaten on New Year’s Day remains hospitalized but is making progress, police said.
Jennifer Grogan Watson, 33, was at her home at Valley View Estates apartments, 5801 Twin City Hwy., when she and her boyfriend reportedly became involved in a domestic disturbance about 3:28 a.m. Jan. 1. The victim’s 11-year-old child made the 911 call and attempted to help her mother and protect another child who was visiting the home.
“In talking with the family we’ve heard she’s steadily improving,” Port Arthur Police Sgt. Scott Gaspard said.
Ervis Chapman Jr., 32, of Port Arthur, was arrested in Chambers County later that afternoon and transferred to Jefferson County. Jefferson County Justice of the Peace Precinct 8 Tim Gilliam III set bond at $200,000 on the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first degree felony. He was also charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
