GROVES —
Filing for two seats on Groves city council as well as the mayor’s seat and city marshal will begin on Monday for the Nov. 6 general election.
All four incumbents, which include Ward 2 councilwoman Karen Theis, Ward 4 councilman Kyle Hollier, Mayor Brad Bailey and City Marshal Jeff Wilmore, have indicated they will file for reelection.
The actual first day to file falls on a Saturday causing the date to move to Monday, July 23.
Bailey was first elected to the mayoral spot in 2000 and Wilmore came on board as city marshal in 2007 and has 33 years experience with GPD. Theis, owner of the Courtyard Cafe, was first elected to council in 2008 and Hollier, owner of Hollier’s Photography Studio, has spent 12 years on council.
To be eligible to be a candidate for the election, a person must:
• be a United States citizen;
• be 18 years of age or older
• have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be: (a) totally mentally incapacitated; or (b) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote;
• have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities;
• have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and within the corporate limits of the City for at least six months preceding the election.
Applications for filing may be picked up from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday through Aug. 20 at Groves City Hall, 3947 Lincoln Ave. There is a $25 filing fee.
