Arrest made in Nederland bank robbery

A Central Gardens area man has been charged with the Aug. 13 robbery of Community Bank in Nederland.

At about 4 p.m. Friday, Aug.,. 17, Nederland Police obtained an arrest warrant for Christopher Levi Woodcock, 32, in reference to the robbery. Woodcock was arrested without incident by Jefferson County Sheriff’s Officers as he returned to his residence on Price Street in Central Gardens, Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said.

Woodcock is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail.  Bond was set at $250,000  by Justice of the Peace Mark Derouen. The investigation is ongoing.

Police initially responded following a call that the bank had been robbed at approximately 3:17 p.m. August 13. Upon arrival the officers were informed that the suspect approached the teller with a note stating to give him the money and on one would get hurt, while placing one of his hands in his pocket. The teller gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money then left the building, fleeing in a white four door Nissan Maxima. The last known direction of travel was Southeast on Magnolia, according to information from police.

The suspect was described as being a tall stocky white man between 35 to 45 years old with brown hair, beard and mustache. He was wearing a tan or khaki work shirt, blue jeans and a cap.

An investigation was quickly launched and video surveillance photos of the suspect and suspect video were distributed to local media.

Bush said his department received calls regarding the identity of the suspect and followed up on the leads. The police department was assisted by the FBI in the investigation.

Woodcock has a prior criminal record and according to Jefferson County public records includes charges of possession of marijuana, class A theft, class B theft and driving while license suspended.
