PORT NECHES — Port Neches police officers arrested two men at about 1:30 a.m. Friday for burglary of a building. While on patrol, Sgt. David Reeves noticed the back door to the Gator Stop Convenience store, 716 Magnolia, to be slightly ajar. Upon further investigation Sgt. Reeves could hear noises from inside the store and believed that someone was inside. After backup officers arrived, officers entered the store and observed two male suspects prying on the front of the ATM machine. Officers took a 36-year-old Port Neches resident and a 33-year-old Groves resident into custody. Both suspects were later transported to the Jefferson County jail and booked for burglary of a building. Burglary of a building is classified as a state jail felony. A person convicted of a state jail felony can be punished by confinement in a state jail for 180 days to 2 years and fined up to $10,000.
