PORT NECHES —
Port Neches Riverfront Park was bustling with activity, and a few characters, on Tuesday.
The Crash Test Dummies were joined by McGruff the Crime Dog and JoJo, the pizza tossing, mustache wearing mascot for Pizza Inn during the city’s fifth annual National Night Out.
Port Neches Police Chief Paul Lemoine welcomed an ever growing crowd to the event and gave thanks to the sponsors before turning the microphone over to a group from Tonalta School of Music where an electric guitar player performed the National Anthem solo.
The music continued as long lines of people snaked around the pavilion for free pizza and popcorn. There were also tables set up for face painting and groups were providing safety information as well.
Port Neches-Groves High School coaches Toby Latiolais and Brett McPhatter manned the dunking booth with McPhatter in the hot seat.
Seth Sullivan, 6, stepped up to the mark and began tossing softballs at the target. When Sullivan’s toss didn’t move the target, Latiolais instructed the youth to push the target thus plunging the laughing coach into the water.
“I like the Indians,” Sullivan said before shouting a greeting to the Indian Spirit as he entered the scene.
Crystal Galloway was pleased with the event.
“I think it’s awesome. We have beautiful weather and it’s a beautiful afternoon,” Galloway said. “It’s wonderful for the city to host this for residents.”
Galloway attended the event with daughter, Vicki, and grandchildren Logan and Gilly.
“This is truly a community event and I feel blessed to be here,” she said.
