Community Scoop: Grillers, good neighbors and belly dancers gather





The Texas Pecan Festival is just one of the good things going on in the area. Grillin’ in Groves is set for Sept.12 at Lions Park and Harris Florist in Nederland will again give away roses on Sept. 9, which is Good Neighbor Day.

Big pink flyers at the Port Arthur YMCA say a new six-week belly dancing class will begin on Sept. 2.

Think about it, ladies.



Pecan pageant

The Groves Chamber of Commerce & Tourist Center announces the Texas Pecan Queen's Scholarship Pageant will be on Saturday, Sept. 12, instead of Sept. 11, as printed on pageant tickets. The event will be at the Port Neches-Groves High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. For information, call 962-3631.

 

Fashions in a nutshell

The Courtyard Cafe, The Collection, Groves Chamber of Commerce and the Nail Cottage have tickets for Gulf Coast Sertoma Club’s Fashions in a Nutshell style show, with fashions from Dillard’s. The show will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at The Courtyard, Lincoln Ave., Groves.

She’s kicking it off in September with collectibles such as plates, figurines and other gift items. The store is at 3301 Medical Triangle Drive and sales benefit United Board of Missions. The Art Museum of Southeast Texas will present the ‘80s Dance Party Gala to honor Kim and Roy Steinhagen at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 at the Museum, 500 Main Street, Beaumont.
