Michelle Marroquin does a lot of grocery shopping.
With four children ranging in age from five to 12, Marroquin is a regular customer at the Mid-County area H-E-B on FM 365 in Port Arthur.
“To say I shop here a lot is an understatement,” Marroquin said as she pushed a shopping cart past the bread aisle. “I have a lot of kids to feed.”
The busy mom was happy to hear her favorite grocery store will be soon be growing.
H-E-B acquired the space that formerly houses Hollywood Video and is adding an additional 28,000 square feet to the existing 54,000 square foot store.
Michael Lee, unit director for the H-E-B, said everyone’s excited about the upcoming expansion.
“We look forward to offering more variety to customers,” Lee said while moving about the store.
Roger Pena, another devoted customer, is equally excited.
“The store is wonderful, I love it,” Pena said. “I buy a lot of stuff here.”
Pena, a local businessman, purchases fresh items from the H-E-B for the burritos he sells. His children have also worked at the store and he called Lee a “wonderful person.”
Lee said the store will remain open while under construction. The expansion will include an expanded product selection, wider aisles and a large parking lot.
And, as part of H-E-B’s investment in the community, the newly expanded store will create 80-100 new jobs for the Mid-County community.
