The city of Port Arthur is thanking seniors for being a treasure to their community.
Wednesday, Nov. 11, is the deadline to accept an invitation to the annual banquet, fashion show and bingo part. Seniors will participate in a Christmas in November theme, and they seem eacited about it.
“They’re actually calling to thank is for putting it on,” Christe Whitley Smith, secretary in the mayor’s office, said.
The Senior Treasures Banquet will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at the Community Retirement Home, 3141 Procter St. Smith said calls for reservations are pouring in.
“They’re excited. Our seniors are looking for something to do and they’re happy this is going on and it’s encouraging to us,” Smith said.
She said the event will honor senior citizens 65 or older for their contributions past, present and future to Port Arthur’s growth and development.
The agenda will include bingo games with Mayor Delores “Bobbie” Prince and prizes. Mission’s Attic will furnish fashions for a style show and Smith promises “festive singing” and a holiday meal.
“They will be singing Christmas carols,” she said.
The mayor will give a welcome and Rick Irwin will deliver an invocation.
There is no charge. To attend, call Smith at 409-983-8105.
