Respect and goodness begins at home, Scedonia McClain said. But she took some with her to share at the Senior Treasures luncheon.
Port Arthur Mayor Deloris “Bobbie” Prince said the city hosts the Senior Treasures luncheon to let the local golden years population know they are appreciated. Community Retirement Home, which is celebrating 65 years of service, hosted the party in a packed dining room on Monday.
“It’s always good to pay tribute to those who have paved the way for us. They are our senior treasures,” Prince said.
McClain came in red and purple, with her Bella Red Hat Society sisters. She said her age has brought her wisdom and that being a treasure means sharing her knowledge with formative young people at her church, Thomas Boulevard Church of Christ.
“I greet everybody, I love everybody. First, it begins at home,” McClain said about goodness and respect.
The event included information booths, bingo, door prizes and singing with a Christmas in November meal. Activity centered around a decked-out Christmas tree in the lobby.
Paula Tallant, the home’s executive director, said her staff welcomed the invitation to host the luncheon.
“It’s exposure for the home,” Tallant said.
