PORT NECHES — Port Neches-Groves football fans Carol Sonier and Ursula Rogers only spent about an hour-and-a-half in line Tuesday waiting for tickets to the upcoming Class 4A Division 2 game.
The duo arrived around 9 a.m., Sonier said, and began with a spot in line on Avenue C near the Armory about a block away.
Sarah Murphy arrived about 9 a.m. as well to purchase tickets, she said.
Early bird fans began lining up just after 4 p.m. Monday, Becky Romero, ticket manager, said. Sales began about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday and by 10 a.m. a total of 3,065 tickets were sold.
Inside the administration building’s ticket office Romero and Judy Ratcliff, personnel clerk, took money and distributed the coveted tickets.
Transportation Secretary Idelle Beitruch said she heard some people brought a tent, big screen TV and heater for their overnight wait. Temperatures Monday night plunged in the 40s and a brisk breeze made temperatures seem even lower.
The maximum number of tickets available for sale per person was six, Romero said, adding that most people were purchasing the maximum. The district was allowed to sell a total of 4,500 tickets.
This year 1,240 people hold a total of 3,892 reserved seats for games at the Reservation. The PN-G stadium holds 7,495 which includes seating for band, etc, she said.
“Port Neches-Groves fans have always supported the Indians,” she said. “This is the first time in 32 years we went 10-0 and the fans are excited.”
By the end of the day, a total of 3,986 tickets were sold, leaving about 500 up for grabs.
