In other downtown revitalization project efforts, Port Arthur’s City Council on Tuesday approved nine members to the downtown development board.
The board was created at the suggestion International Economic Development Council, a national group hired to deliver a strategy report for revitalizing the city’s downtown area.
The Council recommended the board be comprised of members nominated by the city, the EDC, Chamber of Commerce, and Lamar State College-Port Arthur.
City Manager Steve Fitzgibbons said the board members will volunteer their time, but a full-time staff and executive director will need to be hired.
Originally the International Council recommended seven members be appointed to the board. Port Arthur’s City Council increased that number to 9 at their regular meeting Tuesday.
Those approved for membership are: Clark Colvin, with Flint Hills Resources; Vicki Derese, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company; Judyette Jackson, representing the Stephen Jackson Foundation; Yvonne Sutherlin, local historian; Kenny Tims, Sr., KT Maintenance president; Kerry Lynn Thomas, Port Arthur Economic Development Board member, and Mark Viator, Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce board chairman; and president of Partnership Strategies, LLC.
