A woman who struck a suspect in the head with a knife and a bomb threat that interrupted holiday shoppers were issues calling for Port Arthur Police assistance.
Officers responded to IHOP, in the 8000 block of Memorial Boulevard at around 3:18 a.m. Saturday to learn there had been an argument between two subjects in the parking lot. A 46-year-old woman retrieved a large knife from her vehicle. Police say the suspect approached the victim and struck him in the head with the knife. The victim was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital and the suspect was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Police responded to the Walmart at the 4000 block of Twin City Highway in reference to a bomb threat around 4:47 p.m. on Black Friday, considered one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Police say management received a call indicating a bomb was in the business and would detonate at a specific time. Customers were evacuated as a precaution. At 5:20 p.m., management, believing the threat was a hoax, reopened the doors for business. Members of the Port Arthur Fire Department were also on the scene.
