BEAUMONT — A Port Neches man was killed in a one-person accident in Beaumont early Saturday morning when his 2002 Mazda truck rolled down an embankment and landed upside down.
Raymond Bailey, 23, was deceased at the scene, according to a press release from Beaumont Police Department.
Police were called to the scene of the accident about 3:05 a.m. Dec. 5 in the 5800 block of Ohio, just off Cardinal Drive near Martin Luther King Parkway.
The investigation revealed the Mazda was West bound (or north bound on U.S. 69) in the 1800 block of East Cardinal Drive. As the truck approached the Martin Luther King exit, over the Sulfur Plant Road, the driver failed to negotiate the curve and left the roadway.
The vehicle traveled down the embankment, across Ohio Street, overturned and landed upside down near the tree line. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The icy conditions may have contributed to this crash.
