GROVES —
An Odessa area man used his vehicle’s Onstar system to trace his stolen vehicle to Groves where he confronted the alleged suspects instead of calling police on Wednesday.
Inside the vehicle, which was parked at the Super 8 Motel, 5001 East Parkway, were two women and one man and when the owner confronted the alleged suspects, the male displayed a handgun which sent the vehicle owner running, according to police reports.
The victim called police at about 4:32 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office located and stopped the vehicle in the 5100 block of North Twin City Highway. A weapon was found in the vehicle and the Groves Police Department was notified.
A 36-year-old male from Houston was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and was booked into the Jefferson County Jail. Groves Police Sgt. Tim McCurley said the suspect “is not new to the criminal justice system.” Bond has been set at $25,000.
The two females were not charged at this time. McCurley said the car owner did not report the vehicle stolen to Odessa Police. The vehicle has been returned to the owner.
