BEAUMONT — United States Attorney John L. Ratcliffe announced Monday that a Louisiana man pleaded guilty to firearms violations in Jefferson County.
Damien Deshone Guidry, 27, of Welsh, La., pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to information presented in court, on May 22, 2006, Guidry was stopped for a traffic violation by a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy on I-10. During the traffic stop, the front passenger of the vehicle opened the glove compartment to locate insurance papers for the vehicle. In doing so, the officer noticed, in plain view, a magazine for a semi-automatic handgun in the glove compartment. A search of the vehicle revealed a firearm in the trunk. Further investigation determined that Guidry was a convicted felon, having previously been found guilty of possession of a controlled substance in Louisiana.
Guidry was indicted on federal firearms charges on Feb. 8, 2007.
Guidry faces up to ten years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 at sentencing.
