Rapper Chad "Pimp C" Butler's life will be celebrated with a funeral service in Port Arthur this weekend.
Hannah Funeral Home confirmed Thursday morning they will be handling services for Butler, however, a funeral spokesperson would not verify the time and date of the service.
Adam Saunders, director of the Robert A. "Bob" Bowers Civic Center, said he is working with the family on making appropriate accommodations for the Port Arthur native's funeral.
Services are tentatively expected to be held either Saturday or Sunday at the Civic Center.
Pimp C, 33, co-founder of the rap sensation UGK, was found dead Tuesday in a Sunset Strip hotel room in California. A L.A. County coroner ruled Wednesday that Butler died of natural causes, however, toxicology results that will determine the actual cause of death will not be ready for release for another month or more.
Butler’s body was expected to be transported back to Texas late Thursday evening or early Friday morning.
Port Arthur Police Chief Mark Blanton said he has not received any confirmation as to when or where the funeral will be held. With rumors spreading across Southeast Texas that such celebrities as Pimp C’s UGK partner and childhood friend, Bun B, and collaborative partner Jay-Z might be in attendance at the Southern rapper’s funeral, PAPD could be needed to provide crowd control.
