From staff reports
Two barges blocking Texas 73 near the Taylor Bayou Bridge should be entirely dismantled by Saturday, allowing the highway to reopen to east and westbound traffic.
Marc Shepherd, Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson, said the two barges that were tied together washed onto the road during Hurricane Ike. Since they storm, the highway has been closed while workers dismantled the barges.
One barge has been removed from the roadway, and about a quarter of the other barge has been dismantled so far, Shepherd said.
Though the eastbound lane is now cleared of the barge, Shepherd said emergency workers are parking in that lane, and the area still has a lot of cattle roaming freely.
