PORT ARTHUR — Everyone has heard of the phrase “The breakfast of champions,” but how about breakfast with Santa Claus?
Children of the First Sixth Street Baptist Church got the chance to eat with St. Nick and tell him what they want for Christmas. Youth director Trinell Smith said this is the church’s second annual Breakfast with Santa. They also host Breakfast with the Easter Bunny during the spring.
In addition to eating breakfast with Santa, the youth also work on arts and crafts.
“The kids love it. They eat and Santa gives them little toys and candy. And the fellowship brings the kids together and they tell him what they want for Christmas,” Smith said.
Most of the kids, just like grown-ups, want electronic toys for Christmas.
For instance, Chris McZeal wants a Sonic the Hedgehog game, while Hannah Griffin wants a Puppy Palace game where you feed and take care of a puppy.
Kyle Kyrien wants a remote control Batman on a motorcycle and wrestling action figures. Glenn Smith wants an IPod Touch.
Santa Claus, a.k.a. Darrell Smothers, said this is a beautiful time of the year for him to play with the kids.
“This is a real enjoyable experience,” he said.
