BEAUMONT — Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum will blow its replica “Lucas Gusher” at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 10, to commemorate the 108th anniversary of the discovery of the Spindletop oil field. The viewing is free to the public.
The gusher, which blows 150 ft. in the air, was built as part of the Spindletop Centennial Celebration in 2001, marking the 108th anniversary of Spindletop. Historic re-enactors portraying oil drillers and spectators will take part in the living history re-enactment.
After the gusher blows, visitors are invited to tour the boomtown museum. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors, and $1 for kids.
Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum is located on Hwy. 69 at University Drive on the Lamar University campus. For more information, call (409) 835-0823.
