Beaumont man jailed for Nederland robberies

NEDERLAND — A Beaumont man is behind bars on a charge of aggravated robbery in relation to an armed robbery of a convenience store.

Lt. Gary Porter of the Nederland Police Department said witnesses provided a description of a vehicle possibly involved with the robbery of a Nederland Avenue business. Bond has been set at $50,000. The man’s name has not been released by police.

On Jan. 8, an employee at Valero Kwik Mart was robbed at gunpoint. That evening police spoke with concerned citizens who gave a description of the suspect vehicle, a light blue Dodge or Chrysler, with a blue tarp on one side of the vehicle.

An officer spotted a vehicle matching the description on Jan. 9 and identified a person of interest that also matched video surveillance. The suspect is also being investigated for being part of three other aggravated robberies that occurred at Bobbie’s Superette, 2423 Nederland Ave.
