PORT ARTHUR —
Port Arthur Police have released information regarding a call of a man jumping from the Rainbow Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
Original reports stated that a white male was seen by witnesses climbing over the rail of the bridge and was suspected to have jumped. Police and fire personnel in Port Arthur responded to the call about 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Searching the river from the vantage point of the bridge crest, officers located the person floating in the waterway. Port Arthur Fire Department personnel boarded a private vessel at Ancelet’s Boat Ramp and responded to the location of the body, according to a press release from PAPD.
The body was recovered and transported to the boat ramp where Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam requested an autopsy. The body was then brought to the Jefferson County Morgue.
Police said the deceased was a 58-year-old Hispanic male from Port Arthur.
