Egg-cellent donations needed for hunt in Groves

GROVES — Reaching into a large cardboard box Debbie Snell pulled out a clear bag filled with colorful plastic eggs.

Each of the eggs, all 2,500 of them, are filled with a small prize or trinket, Snell, administrative assistant at the Groves Chamber of Commerce & Tourist Center, said.

Kids ages zero through seven will have a chance to search for the eggs during the chamber’s annual Easter Egg Hunt scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Wesgroves Park.

“We hid 2,000 eggs last year and they were all found in about three minutes time,” Snell said with a laugh.

About 111 children participated in the event last year.

The Easter Bunny will make a special appearance and refreshments will be served.

Chamber members work hard to make the Easter Egg Hunt successful and fun for the children. The park is divided into three sections for each of the three age groups — zero through three, four and five, and six and seven. The youngest participants are allowed to have some help from parents but ages four and five, and six and seven will compete on their own.

Children receive a ticket and those whose number is drawn will receive a special prize.

While there is an abundance of eggs for children to hunt for the chamber is also seeking donations of wrapped Easter baskets and stuffed animals for the following age divisions; three and under, four and five and six and seven, for both boys and girls.

Persons wishing to make a donation can contact the chamber office at 4933 Main Ave. no later than 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 20. For more information, call 962-3631.
