PORT ARTHUR —
A Port Arthur apartment complex was plunged into darkness for a few hours Wednesday after a billing mix up.
Quintella Broxton, a resident of Paradise Townhomes, located at 4001 Memorial Blvd., said the power was shut off to all of the units around 11 a.m. Broxton, who has lived at the apartment complex for about a year-and-a-half, said her electric bill is included in her rent and her rent was up to date when the power went off in the all-electric apartment.
The Port Arthur woman made calls to the apartment complex office who referred her to the corporate offices of the property management company, Assets Plus Corporation in Houston.
“My rent is paid up, I don’t have money to go to a hotel and I shouldn’t have to,” Broxton said prior to the electricity coming back on.
Broxton later noticed workers with Entergy at the complex and electricity was turned back on in the office and one of the units. Then she made a call and left a message with the corporate office, she said.
Terry Henry, Assets Plus Corporation vice-president over the property, gave an explanation for the issue.
“There was a mix-up on billing and the way they applied payments,” Henry said. “It was resolved today.”
Electricity was returned to the full complex around 2 p.m. according to both Broxton and Henry.
But two hours without electricity due to a mix-up in billing is something Broxton feels should not have happened in the first place.
“I don’t care what happened. They can call it whatever they want,” she said. “If I’m wrong I’m wrong and if I’m right I’m going to stand up for what’s right.”
