PORT ARTHUR — Port Arthur Police have released the names of two men who were critically injured in a major traffic accident during the weekend.
Peter Pickens, 44, of Port Arthur, and Michael Montgomery, 27, also of Port Arthur, are listed in critical condition at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, PAPD Major Raymond Clark said.
The accident occurred about 8:12 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 7 in the 2800 block of Gulfway Drive.
Montgomery was driving a Lincoln Town Car, which was reported as stolen, heading eastbound in the 2800 block of Gulfway Drive at a high rate of speed.
Pickens, who was driving a Dodge Avenger, was turning south onto Woodworth Boulevard from Gulfway Drive, when the car was struck by the Lincoln.
Both vehicles sustained a large amount of damage, he said.
While the Lincoln was reported as stolen before the accident, police are investigating the events leading to the accident since both the driver of the car and the actual owner knew each other, he said.
The case remains under investigation.
