NEDERLAND —
Local children learned about the legend of Groundhog Day during story time at the Ed and Marion Hughes Public Library on Wednesday.
Librarian assistant Anna Flowers started off the session with “Geoffrey Groundhog Predicts the Weather,” which explored the confusion that resulted from the groundhog sleeping in on the big day.
Next, the children got a little slice of home with “Substitute Groundhog.” When a sick groundhog has to search for a replacement, he discovers not just anyone can do his job. Luckily the day is saved by a visiting armadillo, prompting a “Texas to the rescue!” from one parent in the crowd.
The reading was followed by a spring-themed craft, in the hopes that the groundhog does not see his shadow on Satuday.
Story time is held at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday at the library, which is located at 2712 Nederland Ave. For more information, call 722-1255.
