Critter Cam Video: Red wolf?
Outdoors Editor Chester Moore has contended for years that red wolves which were declared extinct in the wild in 1980 are still in existence in Southeast Texas.
This vintage Critter Cam material taken by Moore in 2003 with an old motion-sensing VHS camera in Jefferson County shows a very red wolf like animal.
"This great species was said to have had problems hybridizing with coyotes but science has had many problems defining what a red wolf really is. Some believe they are simply fertile hybrids between gray wolves and coyotes while others are not so sure. The bottom line is there are animals here that are definitely not coyotes. They are something else, much closer to what we consider a red wolf. That is a subject we have explored on the Outdoors page in depth over the years and will begin to look at on video a panews.com. Modern technology is giving us fun new ways to communicate about the great outdoors and also search out these natural mysteries," Moore said.
Look for another video dealing with wolves including a commentary on the subject by Moore next week here at panews.com.
