GROVES —
A Groves Police officer is on paid administrative following a minor traffic accident and reports of the officer allegedly driving erratically.
Groves City Marshal Jeff Wilmore said the officer, whose name has not been released, was involved in the minor traffic accident at about 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22. The officer allegedly began driving erratically along U.S. 69 before he bumped into a State of Texas prison van at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Florida Avenue in Beaumont.
“There was very, very minor damage to both vehicles,” Wilmore said. “It was unknown at the time if he was suffering from a medical condition or was impaired in some way, lack of sleep or something.”
Wilmore said witnesses reported the officer appeared to have a medical condition.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time and the incident is being investigated for department policy violations.
