HOUSTON —
Beloved father, son, brother, and friend Tommie Glenn Braggs born December 5, 1947 was called home July 4, 2012. Tommie was born to James and Velma Braggs in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is preceded by his parents in death. Tommie was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Port Arthur, Texas where he met and married his high- school sweetheart, Opal Ann Bryant. Tommie and Opal were married for 41 years until her death in June of 2009. During their marriage they had four loving daughters: Rhondalyn, Karen, Iris, and Ashli’ Braggs. Tommie served as U.S. Marine, branch manager of TransAmerica Financial Services, and Supervisor of Appraisals at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs until he retired in June of 2009.
Tommie was a dedicated father who loved and provided. He loved music, playing the piano, golf, laughing, and family time. He will be forever cherished and sorely missed.
Friends and family are invited to attend the wake and home-going services Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Barnes Memorial Methodist Church located at 749 West 17th St, Port Arthur, Texas 77640. The wake will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and home-going services will begin at 11:00 a.m.
Tommie is survived by his four daughters; his brother, Peter Braggs; sister, Barbara Wilson; mother-in-law, Loma Bryant; a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Tommie Braggs touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end.
