Bettye Loretta Davis

PORT ARTHUR — Bettye Loretta Davis was born in Port Arthur, Texas, on February 10, 1942 and departed this life on March 27, 2012.  She was an active life member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Bettye was a graduate of the 1959 Class of Abraham Lincoln High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wiley College and a Masters of Education from Prairie View A&M University.  

   She was employed with the Port Arthur Independent School District for 38 years and worked as a teacher and counselor until her retirement. Bettye was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. at Wiley College.  She was a Golden Life Member whose membership spanned 51 continuous years.  Bettye was a serious, no nonsense and independent thinker who was always committed to God, her family, her circle of friends and others with whom she came in contact.  

   She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and four sisters. She leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Willie Mae Fonteno and Deniese James of Port Arthur and her brother Harold (Kathy) Davis, Sr. of Victorville, CA., nine nephews and ten nieces, and many beloved grand and great grand nephews and nieces and cousins.

   Services will be Thursday, April 5, 2012, 1:00pm at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Quiet Time from 11:00am-1:00pm.  Funeral arrangement entrusted to Hannah Funeral Home.
