Helen “Nee-Nee” Fruge was born December 15, 1920 to Carrie Mitchell Fruge and Joe Fruge, Sr. in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. She married Asell “Buddy” Hollins on November 9, 1945 and that marriage lasted until his death in 2006.
Preceding her in death: parents, husband, siblings Melvin Frazier, Henry McCauley, Octavia “Bay-Bay” Ivory, Joe “Jake” Fruge, Rosa Lee “Tee-Tee” Warrick, Florence “Ratt” Johnson, Josephine “Mooney” Lyons, and great-granddaughter Jonelle “Nika” Swallow.
Survivors: her only beloved son, Joseph “Skeeter”Semien, Sr. and wife Shirley; baby sister Emma Jean “Skippy” Hagger; grandchildren Bernadine “Midge” Jacobs (Albert “Lou”), Billie Lavergne (Joe), Joseph (June) Semien Jr., Cheryl Denise Newman and Glen Semien, Sr.; great-grandchildren Bryce Julun, Brandon (BJ) Julun, Joey Lavergne, Jeremy Lavergne, Atunshae Swallow, Nathan Mingo Jr., Kayla Mingo, Angel Semien, Amber Semien, Alexis Semien, Glenn Semien Jr., Armani Semien; great-great-grandchildren Braya Julun, Brianna Julun, Jaydon Mingo, Amarion Semien, Ri’Ona Semien, Jamarion Valaire, Adrian Carter; special grandchildren Albert “Lil Lou” Jacobs, Jermall Jacobs, Akeam Jacobs, Latirsa Jacobs; special-in-law Mary “Tee-Tee” Figaro; special nephew Terry “T-Boy” Flemings; sisters-in-law Annie “Sis” Hollins and Mary Margaret “Topsy” Fruge and brother-in-law Louis J. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Thomas Boulevard Church of Christ (2948 Thomas Blvd) with Bro. Leonard Joubert of the El Vista Church of Christ officiating. Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in Johnson Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
