Bro. Michael "Mike" Wayne Batiste

PORT ARTHUR — Bro. Michael “Mike” Wayne Batiste was born December 12, 1965 in Port Arthur, TX to Raymond and Erma Jean Williams Batiste. He was the second oldest son and was an outstanding person. He nerve met a stranger and was quite the social butterfly along with his older brother Jarin at Thomas Jefferson High School where they were well known. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School, Michael decided that instead of taking the traditional college route he would serve his country by joining the United States Navy. Michael retired from the US Navy in June of 2004 and returned to Port Arthur, TX where he began working for the Texas Workforce Center. On Saturday, April 28th God spoke to Michael and told him that his tour of duty was over here on earth and that it was time for him to come back home to be with him. Being the faithful and humble servant that Michael was he stretched his hand and obeyed his Heavenly Father and went home. Michael was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents - James and Doris Towers, Ola Batiste, Jules Batiste, and Mary Ware; Uncles, Oris Batiste, Huris Batiste, and Roy Batiste; Aunts, Nora Handy and Barbara Ann Clayton. Those who remain to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Lena; son, Dominic (Donna); Parents, Raymond & Erma; Brothers, Jarin, Roderick (Rachel), Raymond Jr.; Sister, Angela; Granddaughter, Averie Michelle; Nieces, Niya, Kennedi and Tiana James; Nephews, Jules & Caleb Batiste and his “Road Dog” Torian Deans. A special Aunt and Uncle who were more like a brother and sister, Lawrence and Jamesetta Williams along with nephew, Jesrick Sowell and nieces, Joyia and Jaina Sowell. He is also survived by Brothers and Sisters-in- law; many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Co-workers and The Rock Island Church Family. His funeral will be Saturday, May 5th at Rock Island Baptist Church, where the Rev. Ransom E. Howard Sr. will officiate the service. Viewing will be held from 9;00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The service will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Live Oak cemetery under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home.
