PORT ARTHUR —
Ardell Ruth Scogin Jones, 86, of Port Arthur, Texas passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur.
She was born on March 2, 1926 in Appleby, Texas to Essie Stokes Sparks and Albert Sparks. Ardell has been a resident of Port Arthur since 1945, She was a homemaker and worked at various jobs. She was a member of Mauriceville Church of Christ.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, May 6, 2012 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Chris Eppler, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers will be John Sonnier, John Dickerson, Chad DeYoung, Chris Kidder, Ernest Egulf and Chip Cappel.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, William F. Scogin and her second husband, Berdice Jones.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Earl Scogin and wife Dolly of Orangefield, Texas, William Lee Scogin and wife Jan of Friendswood, Texas, her daughter, Shirley Lafferty of Lafayette, Louisiana, her eight grandchildren, Ricky Scogin (Sulieka), Brian Scogin (Iris), Jeff Scogin (Ozhny), Ted Lafferty (Jennie), Tim Lafferty, Teresa Lafferty-Price (Stephen), Greg Scogin (Jennifer), Gary Scogin (Aimee) and fourteen great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sister, Verline Taylor of Diamond Bar, California along with several nieces and nephews.
