NEDERLAND — Carlton E. Cross
Carlton E. Cross, 79, of Nederland passed away on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur. He was born November 19, 1930 to Charlie Carlton Cross and Christelle Baucom Cross in Rosser, Texas. He lived in Port Arthur 49 years before moving to Nederland 20 years ago. Carlton retired as a pipefitter with Gulf Oil after 34 years of service. He was a member of O.C.A.W. Local 4-23. He coached baseball in Junior League, Little League, Pony and Colt Leagues and in later years enjoyed watching sports from the stands. Carlton also had a passion for woodworking.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 18, 2010 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home in Groves. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 19, 2010 in the Thompson Memorial Chapel at Clayton Thompson with Rev. Sandy Drake, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Joyce Cross Laughlin and his brother, Woodrow Cross.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Loretta Foote Cross of Nederland, his son, Billy Charles Cross of Port Arthur, his daughters, Cheryl Cross Spafford and husband Butch of Nederland, Jeannine Cross of Baytown along with 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
