PORT ARTHUR —
Helen Christine Block Dews, 91, of Port Neches, died Friday, April 13, 2012, at Harbor Hospice, Beaumont.
Born March 26, 1921, in Port Neches, to Emma Block and Alton Block, she had been a lifelong resident of the area. Helen retired from Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches as their bookkeeper and office manager after thirty years of service. She enjoyed playing 84 every Friday night with her brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her sons, Jerry W. Dews and his wife, Sue, and Tommy G. Dews and his wife, Linda, all of Port Neches; grandchildren, Derek Dews of Groves, and Brant Dews and Ryan Dews both of Port Neches; great-grandchildren, Reyna Dews, River Dews, and Cambree Dews; sisters, Nora Weeks of Port Neches, Bernice Hinson of Nederland, Sue Melancon of Michigan, Judy Screen and Vickie Craver, both of Port Neches and Toni Whitman of Winnie; brother, Harmon Block of Port Neches; brothers-in-law, Owen Glidewell and Charles Ballew; and sister-in-law, Stella Block.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Smith Dews; her sisters, Minnie Glidewell, Roberta Ballew, and Betty Allison; and brothers, Joseph Block, E.H. “Cotton” Block and Otis Block.
A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Broussard’s, 505 12th Street, Nederland. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2012, at Broussard’s, with interment to follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park, Port Neches.
