PORT ARTHUR — Thurman Lee Jackson, 78, of Port Arthur, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 in the comfort of his home under the watchful care of River City Hospice. He was born October 3, 1933 to the late Gertha Lee Matthews and Ira Jackson. Thurman accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. He was a member of Eastern Star Baptist Church where he served as a faithful Deacon, Men’s Sunday School Class, Brotherhood Youth Dept. and Prayer Meeting. He retired as a Business Agent for Laborers Local 853, serving over 50 years in the Laborers International Union of North America. Visitation will be Friday, May 11, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. until service begins at 11:00 a.m. at Eastern Star Baptist Church with Pastor L.W. Scott, Sr. officiating. Internment at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Gabriel Funeral Home. Thurman is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy B. Jackson; daughters, Valerie Walker, Traci Jackson of Port Arthur, Tongela Gunner (Timothy) of Fresno, TX; son, Titus Jackson (Treanell) of Nederland, TX; Seven grandchildren, one brother, Frank Fails Jr. (Queenetta) of Texas City; three aunts, Brother-in-law, Donald Bernard (Dorothy) of Shreveport, LA and a host of other relatives and friends. We extend our thanks and gratitude to the caregivers, Claudia Cade, Margaret Collins, Vernon & Gail Pitre and Jazmine Fontenette. Also cherishing his memory is Hoppie’s watchful, faithful and protective pet, “Heaven”.
