PORT ARTHUR —
Zulema Arredondo Martinez, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Odyssey Hospice in Conroe, Texas surrounded by her family.
Zulema was born on February 9, 1920 to Epigmenio and Ismaela Maldonado Arredondo. She married Gilbert Martinez on October 18, 1942 in Port Arthur, Texas. They raised eight children together and were happily married for 70 years. A long-time resident of Fannett, Texas, Zulema was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was active in the Catholic Daughters and Altar Society.
Zulema was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Robert Martinez; daughter, Belinda Rose Martinez; granddaughter, Krista Sifferd; sister, Hortensia Flores; and brother Epigmenio Arredondo.
Zulema is survived by: her husband, Gilbert; her children, Roland (Sherry) Martinez, Gracie (Joe) Garcia, Nick (Becky) Martinez, Joel (Melissa) Martinez, Belinda (Chuck) Sifferd, Leticia (Martin) Vela; 12 grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; brother, Gus Arredondo; sister, Pauline (Boone) Theriot; and sister-in-law, Zoila Arredondo.
The family welcomes friends and relatives to a visitation at 4:00pm and rosary at 7:00pm to be held at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th Street, Port Arthur, Texas on Thursday, January 31st. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 9894 Gilbert Road, Fannett, Texas at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 1st. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Port Arthur, Texas.
Pallbearers: Robert Martinez, Brian Martinez, Andy Garcia, Lane Martinez, Sam Vela, and Eric Mendez.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine, the Father Fernandez Scholarship Fund or St. Mary’s Catholic Church Flower Fund.
