PORT ARTHUR —
Oscar Marion Joffrion, Sr., 90 of Port Arthur, passed away, Monday, February 25, 2013 in Port Arthur. Oscar was born October 13, 1922 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Marion Lawrence Joffrion and Elda Mary Wyble Joffrion and was a lifelong resident of Port Arthur.
Oscar was a Graduate of St. James Catholic School class of 1942. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy and retired with over 37 years of service as an Operator and Stillman for Gulf Oil in 1980.
Oscar was married over 64 years to the love of his life, Nellie Beatrice Ryman Joffrion and they never spent a day apart. Oscar’s hobbies included fishing, hunting and all outdoors activities, making cast nets and was known as an avid alligator hunter and trapper. He was a faithful husband, dedicated father and proud grandfather; he will be greatly missed by many.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife and sister, Joyce Mayo.
Oscar is survived by his son, Oscar Joffrion Jr., and his wife Jule of Port Arthur; daughters, Sandy Ashworth of Port Arthur; Joan Williams and her husband Louie of Mauriceville; sister, Blanch Owen of Magnolia Springs; grandchildren, Shelby Presnell and her husband Parke of Irving; Amanda Moors and her husband Dan of Charleston, SC.; Ben Joffrion of Beaumont; Perry Ashworth and his wife Bambi of Port Arthur; Matthew Ashworth and his wife Amie of Palestine; Patrick Ashworth of Detroit, MI.; Joe Wright of Nederland; James Williams of Austin; Andrew Williams and his wife Rachel of Houston; Megan Getraer and her husband David of New York, NY; and 12 great grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. Catherine Catholic Church with burial to follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Nederland.
Pallbearers for services will be: Matthew Ashworth, Patrick Ashworth, James Williams, Andrew Williams, Ben Joffrion and Rennie Borgobello. Honorary Pallbearers will be Perry Ashworth and Joe Wright.
