George Austin Dyson
PORT NECHES - George Austin Dyson, 91, of Port Neches, Texas, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008 at Gulf Health Care Center, Port Arthur, Texas after a brief illness. He was born in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, on October 30, 1916 to parents, Louis Adolph Dyson and Edia Marie Michon Dyson. He had lived in the Golden Triangle area when he married Avien Marie Touchet Dyson. They were married 63 years before her death.
George worked a combined 37 years at J&L; Barrel Plant and Cortland Container Corporation as a relief machine operator. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to many and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He most enjoyed taking care of his family and spending time with and helping his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. George enjoyed playing solitaire and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros on television and the Golf Channel. He also enjoyed doing odd jobs and painting houses. He enjoyed sharing his stories with others. George never met a stranger. He was a member of Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches.
A visitation will be on Wednesday evening March 26, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur. A Christian Mass will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church in Port Neches with the Reverend Bennie Patillo officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves. He was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife of 63 years, Avien Marie Touchet Dyson, two sons, Terry Paul Baudoin, Sr. and George Michael Dyson, sisters, Frances Adaway, Ruby Fontenot, Effie Poydence and Lottie Pope, and brothers, Carl Dyson and Sam Dyson. He is survived by a daughter-in-law Nancy Baudoin of Austin, a son Ray Dyson and wife Laura of Houston, two daughters Brenda Harrington and husband Marcus of Port Neches, and Charlotte Vannett and husband Rick of Nederland. He is survived by five grandchildren, Terry Baudoin, Jr. and wife Cindy of Austin, Vivian Schultz Dewey and husband Pete of Houston, Jeff Vannett and wife Kristi of Kingwood, Jennifer Haveman and husband Robbie of Plano, and Jason Harrington and wife Annie of Beaumont along with three great- grandchildren, Dustin Schultz of Houston, Taylor Vannett of Kingwood, and Hayden Haveman of Plano. He is also survived by a sister, Addie Mar Buxton of Silsbee, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many other family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Vannett, Jason Harrington, Jerry Bellot, Blaine Judice, Jessie Myers and Josh Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Baudoin, Jr., Dustin Schultz and Robbie Haveman. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of Hospice of Texas and Gulf Health Care Center, for the loving care, support and understanding they gave to our father and our family during the latter part of his life.

Crystina Leigh Segeada
Crystina Leigh Segeada, 15, formerly of the Mid-County area passed away March 19, 2008. She was born April 12, 1992 in Port Arthur, Texas to Martin Wayne Segeada and Crystal Ramirez.
She is survived by her father, David Ramirez; grandmother, Judy Monic; 2 grandfathers, Johnny Sidle and Joe Parfait; brother, Christian Ramirez; 2 sisters, Kimberlee and Ashlee Segeada; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Crystal Ramirez.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland. Funeral services will be Thursday, March 27th at Heritage Funeral Home in Nederland, Rev. Randy Hammer officiating.
Leland Bond Dawson Jr.
Services for Leland Bond Dawson, Jr., 85, of Groves, Texas will be at 10:00 am Thursday March 27, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Groves, with Bro. Joe Worley and Bro. Charles Miller officiating, under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home of Groves, TX. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. L.B. was called to be with the Lord on Monday, March 24, 2008 at a Longview hospital following a lengthy illness. Leland was born on April 4, 1922 to Leland Bond and Carrie Mae Dawson in Floydada, TX. He was a resident of Groves for over 70 years, recently moving to Longview after Hurricane Rita. A graduate of Port Neches Groves High School, he joined the Merchant Marines prior to attending Texas A & M. In 1941, Leland joined the Navy, serving as a radioman in Naval Intelligence during WWII. At that time, he was stationed on Bambridge Island, WA. Leland worked at the Gulf Oil refinery for 34 years as an operator, but returned to active duty in the Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan. Leland was a member of First Baptist Church, Groves for most of his life. His hobbies included gardening, working with rocks and creating jewelry, coin collecting, playing dominoes with friends from church, and gathering with his neighbors and best friends from the neighborhood. He married Gladys Ruth Patin on October 27, 1945. They made their home in Groves.
L.B. is survived by “Punkin” his ”Sweetest most precious in the world,” Ruth, his bride of 62 years; one daughter, Bonnie and husband, Robert Horstmann, of San Diego, CA; one son, David and wife, Shela Dawson, of Longview, TX; two grandsons, Brian and Kevin Dawson of Longview, TX; one brother, Jack Dawson of Ocala, Florida; one sister Norma and husband, Dan Dean of Lake Jackson, TX; brother and sister-in-law, John and Bernice Patin; plus several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Wednesday evening, March 26, 2008, at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, TX.
Dorothea Helena Pardue
Dorothea Helena Pardue, 89, of Port Arthur, Texas died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Dorothea was born April 5, l9l8 in Goldsboro, Texas to Ozamuth Charlton Murphey and Sue Morrell Murphey. She grew up and graduated high school in Abilene. She received her B.S. in education at Texas State Teachers College in Denton, Texas. She taught in Port Arthur for 22 years.Dorothea was an active member of the United Methodist Temple. She and her husband Claude enjoyed traveling on golfing and shopping trips with friends,also gardening and sharing their roses with others. Since her husbands death she has lived in Port Arthur and Houston with her daughter, Pam. Funeral services will be at 3:00p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the United Methodist Temple, 4101 Hwy 73 in Port Arthur, Texas with Reverend Chuck Huffman offficiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memoiral Park under the direction of Levingston Funeral Home in Groves. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the church. Dorothea was preceded in death by her husband, William Claude Pardue and son, Claude Gene Pardue. Survivors include her daughter, Pam Hoelscher of Houston; daughter-in-law, Nita Popielarczyk and husband, Steve of Beaumont; grandchildren, Brandy Hawthorne and husband, Steve of San Antonio, Claude Pardue of Austin, Ashley Stone of Austin, Kelly Collins and husband, Tim of Houston, Harlan Hoelscher and wife, Paula of Houston; great-grandchildren, Clayton and Kristina Collins, Lindsay and Garrett Hoelscher, Zach, Presley, Lucy and Charlie Hawthorne.
