Lillie Cecile Cushion1919 - 2008
Our beloved mother, Lillie, moved on to her Heavenly Home in the early dawn of Tuesday, March 25, 2008. She passed away of natural causes in her assisted living home, Welcome Home, in Bountiful, Utah. She was born in Abbeville, Louisiana the daughter of Emma Stansbury and Joseph T. Pitre.
Lillie loved arts and crafts and was a very accomplished seamstress and gardener. She could do most anything she set her mind to do. She designed and sewed her own patterns at an early age and provided clothes for her family for many years. She always had flower gardens at her homes, first in Sabine Pass where she and Jesse raised their daughters, moving to Port Acres in the early 60's and then to their newly built home in Buna. (She called it "Cougar Country"). When Jesse's health began to fail, they moved "back to town" to Nederland in the 80's. She was expert at flower gardening and most of her married life raised and supplied beautiful cut flowers to her church.
She was very active in her Southern Baptist faith right up to her elderly years. She served in WMU, Vacation Bible School and as Sunday school teacher. Lillie was born in Louisiana but moved to Texas at an early age and spent most of her life there. She moved to Utah in 2003 to live with her daughter, Murle, for four years before moving to an assisted living home. Lillie just loved traveling and in 1968 spent a month traveling with her daughter's family through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France and Holland. One of her great joys was walking through the beautiful fields of tulips in Holland. Lillie has returned home to be with her Savior, her beloved husband, Jesse; and daughter, Anna Marie; her granddaughter, Dawn Casler Emery; her twin sister, Lillian Jennings; her brother, Leroy Broussard and her parents. What a glorious reunion it must have been! Lillie will be greatly missed by her earthly family: daughters, Barbara Cushion of Houston, Murle (Vel) Casler of Bountiful, Utah and Henrietta (Moe) Cully of Port Arthur, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, Texas. Friends and family may attend a brief viewing at l2:00 noon at Levingston Funeral Home,560l 39th Street in Groves prior to the service.
