PORT ARTHUR —
Jesse Ray Ruffin, lovingly known as “Uncle Sonny”, was one of nine children born to Eugene Ruffin Sr. and Emma Brayboy-Ruffin on January 7, 1932 in Port Arthur , Texas . His early years were spent in Port Arthur where he attended Public Schools. He moved to California and graduated from Delmont High School in Los Angeles. He started attending college in New York and later made the decision to join the Army.
Jesse peacefully entered the arms of his Savior on Sunday, April 15, 2012. He joins his parents, Eugene and Emma Ruffin; sisters, Ida Mae Harrison, Regina Blackman and Johnetta Ruffin; and brothers, Charlie Pernell, Murray Ruffin, Ellis Ruffin, Clifton Ruffin and Eugene Ruffin, Jr., who all preceded him in death.
Uncle Sonny was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. His memory will be cherished by his nieces, Jeritza Harrison, Barbara Joseph and LaDonna Anderson, all of Port Arthur, Texas, Roberta Dale of Bay City, Texas, Lillie Collins of Atlanta, Georgia; nephews, Robert Harrison III of Port Arthur, Texas, Reginald Ruffin of Beaumont, Texas and Eugene Harrison of Fort Worth, Texas.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 21, 2012 at Carter Chapel CME Church in Port Arthur, Texas . Visitation will be from 9:00am – 11:00am.
