Kerrville---Port Arthur News Outdoors Editor Chester Moore picked up eight “Excellence in Craft” awards at the Texas Outdoor Writer’s Association (TOWA) banquet at the YO Ranch Resort Saturday.
Scoring three first place wins and five other nods for writing, photography and conservation he was honored for stories covering key local outdoors events including a news story about the state’s first ever flounder stocking that appeared in the News.
“Winning first for that one was a big deal because it is a huge story for our area and something I have a deep personal interest in,” Moore said.
The TOWA judging panel had the following to say about the story.
“Chester Moore’s news story on the historic stocking of flounder in Texas is a historical account few in mainstream media covered. The article has a strong lead, good quotes, good information and is a true news story. In other words, outstanding reporting.”
He also scored first place for his hugely popular Flounder Revolution project and best periodic outdoors column.
Moore also placed in the wildlife photography, nature photography, web page, reporting and outdoors publication.
Over the years Moore has won more than 80 awards for writing, photography, radio and conservation.
“It’s awesome to be recognized by your peers for work that you have such a passion for. I see something like this as a huge honor and never take it for granted as it makes me want to get better at what I do. I appreciate TOWA who are a wonderful group of professionals for the recognition and feel blessed to be able to communicate the outdoors to the people of Southeast Texas.”
