Retriever trainer to speak in Beaumont

  Renowned hunting dog trainer Hank Hough will speak at the Legacy Outfitters Banquet in Beaumont Tues. Aug. 31.

    “Hank does an amazing demonstration with Labrador retrievers that not only shows how well they are trained but drives home a very important family-based message about obedience,” said Erik Newby of Legacy Outfitters.

    Tickets are available at the door at $20 for individuals, $30 for couples and $40 for families with doors opening at 5:30 and the dinner included with price of admission served at 6:30.

    “Besides Hank’s presentation which is a can’t miss deal, we will have an auction, silent auction and drawings throughout the night with all kinds of outdoors based prizes,” Newby said.

   North Sabine---Redfish and trout remain are scattered under schools of ladyfish on the north end. Spoons and Rat-L-Traps are producing fair numbers of good fish. Mullet is producing some bigger fish in the Neches and along the Intracoastal around drop-offs. Very few reports of flounder.

    South Sabine---Capt. Phillip Samuels reports fair action for trout on topwaters early in the morning. The bigger fish are taking mullet fished on a free line or Carolina Rig around drop-offs along with scattered large redfish. Very few reports of flounder.

    Sabine Pass---Trout are good around drop-offs on the channel on live mullet fished on a free line. Redfish are mixed with the trout. Very few reports from the jetties and offshore.

    Sabine River---Trout are fair to good between the Dupont Outfall Canal and Middle Pass on the drop-offs on live mullet. A few fish are coming on topwaters early and late. Redfish are fair but running small. Very few reports of bass.

    Calcasieu (Big Lake )---The Hackberry Rod and Gun Club reports trout are fair to good at the jetties and over shell on live bait. Redfish are very good along the southeastern shoreline on spoons, plastics and live bait. Very few reports of flounder.

    Sam Rayburn---Texas Parks & Wildlife Department biologists report largemouths are good on black/blue flake soft plastic worms. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows over baited holes. Bream are fair on nightcrawlers. Catfish are good on trotlines baited with live bait and cut bait.

    Toledo Bend---Holly Park Marina reports the white bass are schooling in the evening and taking Johnson Spoons. Largemouths are good at night on Senkos and dark-colored worms. A few anglers have been catching schooling bass on Rat-L-Traps with red eyes fished in 12 feet of water. Crappie are slow to fair in 15-20 ft of water. Very few reports of catfish. Bream are good on crickets and worms fished over brush.

    Lake Livingston---Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials report largemouths are good on spinnerbaits. Striped bass are good but small on Rat–L–Traps and Zara spooks. White bass are good on troll tubes, pet spoons, and green Charlie slabs. Crappie are good on minnows. Blue catfish are good on shad. Yellow catfish are slow.
