PORT ARTHUR —
There is a new big fish email circulating around local anglers inboxes.
Attached is a photo of an angler wearing heavy waders with a long sleeved shirt and holding a huge speckled trout at night.
One of the emails (there are a couple) says, “Supposedly measured 36 inches, then they filleted it!”
Another refers to it being bigger than the current state record but eaten.
You can go to panews.com/outdoors and see the shot that has been circulating around and see if you know the angler. If so, please email me at cmooreoutdoors@yahoo.com.
My suspicions however are that it is not a local fish.
I posted it on Facebook page and someone said they got the same email with the same photo and their version said it came from Port Mansfield in South Texas.
There are many of these “big fish” emails circulating and it seems the more they are passed around the more obscure the information.

Rock and roll outdoorsman Ted Nugent plays’ Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie tonight and he comes on a storm of controversy over comments allegedly made at the NRA Convention last week.
I will have an interview with Nugent on my radio program “Moore Outdoors” tonight at 6:05 p.m. on Newstalk AM 560 KLVI. It has been prerecorded and sets the record straight on the actual comments and explains exactly what is going on from the man himself.
Agree or disagree with his politics, there is no way to ignore Nugent.
You do not want to miss this interesting interview.
Now onto the report…
North Sabine---Trout and reds are mixed under the birds on calms days according to Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials. Flounder are set up in the marshes with most of the spring migration over and are on a fair bite pattern. Look for incoming tides to produce the best bites and areas with fair to clear water to produce the most action.
South Sabine---On days with a big south wind the reef is a safe bet for anglers drifting with Gulp, sand eel imitations and other plastics. Reds are mixed with the trout. Flounder are fair on glow-colored jigs and Gulp fished along the Louisiana shoreline.
Sabine Pass---On calm days look to the jetties for Spanish mackerel, redfish and black drum. Look for trout along the Louisiana rocks especially when the sandy green water moves close to shore.
Lake Calcasieu (Big Lake)---Hackberry Rod and Gun reports anglers finding clear water are taking solid numbers of trout. Water temperatures are running above 75 degrees which is typically what it hits in early May. May is Big Lake’s best month for big fish so as waters clear, we could see an early bite.
Sabine River---Very few reports from the river this week. Look for solid bass action along the Interstate 10 corridor in areas with clear water. Light colored spinners and worms in colors like watermelon and sour grape will produce best on Texas or whacky rigs.
Sam Rayburn---Texas Parks & Wildlife Department officials report largemouths are fair on chartreuse soft plastic lizards, Senkos, and Brush Hogs. White bass are good on minnows and silver spoons. Crappie are good on minnows and white tube jigs over grass. Bream are fair on nightcrawlers. Catfish are good on trotlines baited with live bait.
Toledo Bend---Holly Park Marina reports largemouths are slow to fair with some nice fish being caught on Senkos around the deeper grass. White bass remain good on spoons in the river north of the lake. Crappie are fair around boat docks on shiners. Very few reports of catfish.
