PORT ARTHUR —
Port Arthur Independent School District is still noncommittal on the absence of Superintendent Johnny Brown.
The district’s attorney, Melody Chappell, said Brown is not suspended, nor is he on administrative leave. She provided no other comment.
Reports surfaced on Oct. 26 that Brown was not at work, but PAISD officials, including Deputy Superintendent Mark Porterie, have given no details on the nature of his absence.
Chappell did not say if there was a lawsuit pending against the district or Brown, and she would not give a time frame of when any information might be released.
“At a time when I can comment, I will,” Chappell said.
Brown, who was in attendance at the district’s board meeting Oct. 25, has been the PAISD superintendent since 2006.
