PN-G Capsule: Coming out of its bye week, PN-G was able to settle in both Ky Walker and A.J. Smith in new roles. The sophomore Walker will start his first game at quarterback for the Indians while Smith will start at one of the receiver spots. … The Indians also hope to work senior Diego Medina into the mix at running back more. Spencer Wommack will still be the starter and get the majority of the carries, but ever since backup Corbin Coy moved over to cornerback, Wommack has been without a primary backup. Medina should provide that and help spell Wommack from time to time during games. … The Indians finished their first losing non-district schedule under fourth-year head coach Brandon Faircloth this season. In fact, PN-G lost as many non-district games this season as it had in the previous three years combined. Faircloth is now 8-4 in non-district games with the Indians. … Wommack is the team’s leading rusher with 99 yards on 34 carries this season. Medina has 86 yards on 14 carries, all coming against Summer Creek. Walker has completed 10 of 22 passes this season for 126 yards with one interception. He’s also rushed for 24 yards on nine carries. H-back Tim Clopton leads the receiving corps with 15 catches for 153 yards and two TDs while Jeremiah Rose has 11 catches for 124 yards.
Lumberton Capsule: The Raiders have started the season 0-3 in non-district play for a second straight season. Last year, Lumberton went 1-9, with its only win coming in Week 9, a 27-0 victory over Beaumont Central. This year, the Raiders have lost 20-0 to Goose Creek Memorial, 58-8 to Barbers Hill and 41-0 to Silsbee. … Lumberton has scored the fewest points in District 20-4A (8) this season while allowing the most (119). The next-closest team to them in points scored is Central (39). Lumberton is averaging 160 yards of total offense per game while allowing 379. … Lumberton QB Drew Manley has thrown for 179 yards, completing 38 percent of his passes with one TD and four interceptions. Josh Watson leads the offense with 245 rushing yards while Dustin Ford has added 97 rushing yards on 19 carries….The Raiders will feature two new looks on offense and defense from last year’s group. Offensively, Lumberton is moving away from the Slot-T look it featured last season and back to the more traditional I-formation attack that head coach Alvin Credeur ran at PN-G under Matt Burnett. Defensively, the Raiders are switching to a 3-4 look.
Faircloth said: “They’re real scrappy. That’s a great term. I hope people say that about our team. They play hard and are well coached. They’ve played some really good teams. They’re not going to give up. Whether we’re up on them or they’re up on us, they’re going to keep playing. If you don’t play well in this district, you’re going to lose. We have to play well against them. I talk to our team all the time that every game is going to be close. Lumberton on Friday night will be a close game.”
