NEDERLAND —
Lumberton dealt the Port Arthur Memorial girls their first loss of the season to take Nederland’s Bulldog Classic championship 53-51 on Saturday. Memorial beat Jasper 57-25 earlier in the day to advance to the finals.
Memorial senior Ariel Hutchinson was named to the all-tournament team and scored 14 points against Jasper and 15 against Lumberton. Sophomore Joyce Kennerson scored 24 against Lumberton while senior post Loren Evans was also named to the all-tournament team.
Memorial (7-1) will face Beaumont Central at 5 p.m. Monday.
The Nederland girls lost to Lumberton in the semifinals 69-32 before beating Jasper 37-31 to take third place. Dayton claimed the Bronze Bracket championship, beating Hamshire-Fannett 46-26.
Both Memorial’s JV and freshman teams reached their championship games and lost. The Lady Titan JV lost 67-65 to Lumberton while the freshman lost 35-28 to Orangefield.
