PORT ARTHUR —
After recent rains put Lamar State College-Port Arthur’s Martin Field in no shape to play, the Seahawks have moved their non-conference doubleheader today against Iowa Lakes Community College to Beaumont’s Ford Park.
The Hawks will attempt to improve on their 16-12 overall record as they take on the NJCAA Division II program starting at 1 p.m.
The Lakers have just begun their season with Lamar State being their first showdown of the season and the doubleheader won’t be anything short of a challenge.
The Seahawks have already set several school records this season with sophomore Danielle Treadway leading the way with a 10-6 mark on the mound with one save this year. She has a 3.29 earned run average.
Treadway is also already flirting with the school strikeout record with 64 fans this year. The record is 72. Treadway, who hails from Silsbee, has also notched the first no-hitter in Seahawks history. The Hawks are certainly not short on depth on the mound with Candice Spurlock picking up a 4-2 record with 15 strikeouts while Katy Austin is
Sophomore Mallory Koschany of Katy is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation in stolen bases after grabbing 33 free bases in the Seahawks’ 28 games.
Leading the Seahawks at the plate are Koschany (.449), Tiffany Schwartzenburg (.376), Adrienne Rocha (.356), Mindy Leday (.329) and Allison Angelle (.319). Angelle is the slugger of the group, collecting five doubles, two triples and three home runs. Schwartzenburg has five doubles and three home runs.
The Hawks, whose season record is already the best in school history, will travel to Beeville to take on Coastal Bend CC in a Region 14 doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. After that, Lamar State kicks off a 12-game home stand with Connors State on March 20.
